Detox Plus Review – Can It Really Help You Lose Weight And Feel Great?

No one really likes to talk about it, but we’ve all been there — bloated and constipated, uncomfortably full and unable to do up the top button of our favourite pair of jeans.

Our diets are mostly to blame, lacking the fibre and fresh foods required to keep our bowels moving and our stomachs flat.

There are many products on the market that claim to cleanse the colon and detoxify the body, but which ones are effective? And do you even need a pill to achieve this?

We take a look at Evolution Slimming’s DetoxPlus Colon Cleansing System and explore whether it can help detox and cleanse your body.

What is Detox Plus?

DetoxPlus is aimed at dieters and people looking to improve their digestive health and general wellbeing.

The product claims to offer a “deep cellular and digestive cleanse for the liver, intestines and colon”. A glance at the ingredients reveals a natural approach — each capsule contains:

Aloe Capensis

detox-plus-for-your-health

The aloe species of plant has been used throughout history to treat a variety of conditions such as constipation, wounds and sunburn.

Recent studies have shown that some of its compounds can also improve glucose sensitivity in Type 2 diabetics, increase metabolism and help with weight management.

Aloe contains chemicals that relieve constipation, but these can also irritate the bowels and cause diarrhoea.

Research indicates taking aloe at high doses has the potential to cause kidney problems.[ii]

Psyllium Husk Powder

Psyllium husk has long been used to relieve constipation. Its soluble fibre swells when mixed with water in the intestines and forms a gel that drags waste out of the colon.

In addition to this bloat-busting property, water-soluble fibre has been found to be beneficial for weight control, and lowers your risk of cardiovascular disease.[iii]

Prune Extract

Prunes are a great addition to a healthy diet for their high soluble fibre content and good amounts of vitamin A and potassium.

A study published in The Journal of Medicinal Plants Research in 2011 found that prunes have antioxidant and anti-cancer properties, help normalize blood sugar levels and provide relief for constipation.[iv]

Rhubarb Root Extract

Rhubarb root contains very high amounts of fibre. For thousands of years, it was used in Chinese medicine to treat stomach problems and relieve constipation.[v]

Rhubarb is also a good source of antioxidant vitamins C and A, which help your body fight free radicals and infections.[vi]

Detox-Plus-Label

My experience using DetoxPlus

The pills arrived quickly: two days after placing the order a discreet package was delivered. I had taken aloe vera products before and tolerated them quite well, so I decided to take the pills as directed: four a day, two in the morning and two before bedtime for the first fifteen days, and thereafter only two in the evening.

I noticed an effect about eighteen hours after taking the first dose. The initial stages of the DetoxPlus program weren’t particularly comfortable; I experienced some cramping and didn’t want to be too far away from a bathroom that first day.

I would suggest to anyone who decides to start taking DetoxPlus —do so over a quiet weekend or a few days when you don’t have much planned!

Thankfully, after the first few days this effect slowed down and bowel movements became regular. My tummy was less bloated and I felt more comfortable. After fifteen days I reduced the dose to two capsules a day as recommended. The results stayed consistent.

My DetoxPlus Results

My stomach is flatter than it was and the frequent trips to the toilet that first week, though not ideal, certainly made me feel lighter. I have also noticed an improvement in my energy levels, and feel less sluggish in the morning.

DetoxPlus Pros:

  • Works quickly — I noticed the effects the day after I started taking DetoxPlus.
  • Natural ingredients — unlike harsher laxatives, DetoxPlus contains 100% natural ingredients.
  • DetoxPlus can be used alongside other diet supplements, such as Açai Berry Pure, Garcinia Cambodia or Raspberry Ketones to maximise your weight loss.

DetoxPlus Cons:

  • There are some concerns over the safety of aloe vera products. More sensitive people may experience pain and discomfort when taking DetoxPlus.
  • The first few days were rather uncomfortable, with frequent trips to the toilet and some stomach cramping on the first day.
  • Four tablets, a daily dose, represent between 0.8g and 1.3g fibre, which isn’t very much when you consider that the optimum daily amount of fibre to consume for proper digestion and elimination is around 35 grams — in the long term, following a high fibre diet may offer more benefits for your health than taking a colon cleansing product regularly.

Warning:

  • Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid DetoxPlus as research has linked the consumption of aloe vera to a higher risk of miscarriage
  • If you are taking medications, you should consult your doctor before taking supplements.

Other Opinions

I found mixed reviews online. Many people reported constipation relief, weight loss and drastic reductions in bloating, however I also came across a number of reviewers who had not felt the same benefits and instead had experienced severe stomach cramps, wind and diarrhoea.

What Else Can You Do?

Thankfully, taking a colon cleanse product is not the only way you can relieve the symptoms of constipation and detoxify the body. DetoxPlus provides a quick solution, but a healthy and varied diet can go a long way to help keep your bowels moving and improve your wellbeing.

More fibre

Most of us don’t get enough fibre; in fact the average adult in the US only consumes only 12–15 grams of fibre a day[viii] — way off the 35 grams recommended for optimal digestion and health.[ix]

You can increase your intake by eating more vegetables, pulses, whole-grains, nuts and seeds. Include psyllium husks, chia seeds and flax seeds in your diet for an extra dose of soluble fibre.

You can mix the psyllium husks into fruit or vegetable juices, add flax seeds to salads, or sprinkle chia seeds into yogurt.

Hydrate Yourself

Hydration is also a key factor in maintaining mobile bowels, especially if you’re eating more fibre.

Water helps to keep your stools soft and enables them to be more easily passed through the body. Drinking too much coffee, tea and fizzy drinks can dehydrate the body and cause constipation.

In addition, the caffeine, sugar and additives contained in these drinks are damaging to your health.

Our Final Thoughts

There are many things you can do to relieve bloating and constipation, and if you want quick results, DetoxPlus is for you.

If you’ve not taken aloe products before, I suggest starting slowly: take one or two tablets a day and see how your body reacts, before deciding whether to take the full dose.

No colon-cleansing product will ever be a substitute for a healthy diet, but it’s a good place to start.

Whether or not you decide to take DetoxPlus, focus on eating plenty of fresh, wholesome, nutrient dense food and you’ll set the foundations for a healthier you.
